Mw 6.4 New Ireland Region, P.N.G.
updated 30 November 2022

On 13 October 2022 a strong earthquake occurred in New Ireland Region, P.N.G. at a depth of 96 km. The seismic event occurred at 22:20:22 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.4.

On 10 and 12 October critical planetary geometry occurred and larger seismic activity was anticipated for 12-14 October as a result. In particular the Mercury-Earth-Jupiter conjunction on the 12th that coincided with a lunar peak was critical. The same conjunction partially triggered large seismic activity on 4 and 19 September.
