Mw 6.9 Central Mid-Atlantic Ridge
updated 30 November 2022

On 4 September 2022 a strong earthquake occurred at the Central Mid-Atlantic Ridge at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 09:42:20 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.9.

The main trigger for the strong tremors on 4 and 5 September was the Earth-Mercury-Jupiter conjunction, but the critical geometry on 28-30 August should be considered as well. Seen from this respect, the strong earthquake at the Central Mid-Atlantic Ridge occurred after the second lunar peak. Note the lunar conjunction with Mars a day earlier.
