Mw 6.6 Dodecanese Islands, Turkey Border Region
updated 26 Auust 2021

On 20 July 2017 a strong earthquake occurred at the Dodecanese Islands, Turkey Border Region at a depth of 2 km. The seismic event occurred at 22:31:11 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.6.

A convergence of three planetary alignments on 15-16 July followed by critical lunar geometry had already resulted in major seismic activity on the 17th. The next lunar peak, also reaching 13 on the 19th and early 20th resulted in the strong earthquake at the Dodecanese Islands. Because at the time the relationship between planetary and lunar geometry was still not well understood, after this earthquake the SSGI project was started.
