Mw 6.9 Near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan

On 21 November 2016 a strong earthquake occurred near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 20:59:49 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.9.

The earthquake was preceded by a Sun-Venus-Neptune alignment on the 18th while a Mercury-Venus-Uranus alignment was building up. Both alignments are considered quite critical with the potential of causing strong to major seismic activity. Lunar geometry peaked 9 and 8 on the index respectively at the time of the planetary alignments, but involved critical geometry with Jupiter and Uranus on the 18th and 21st. Larger seismic activity also occurred on the 24th and 25th, whereby the Mercury-Venus-Uranus alignment was very much instrumental.
