On 29 May 1068 a strong to major earthquake occurred in the Near East. Based on the historical data available and also on the preceding planetary geometry, the seismic event probably had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) of at least 6.6. It was the second of two strong to major earthquakes in the region winthin a few months.
The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of planetary conjunctions and right angles from 25 to 28 May, followed by a high lunar peak on 28-29 May.
On 25 May a critical planetary conjunction Mars-Venus-Neptune occurred, which was followed by a planetary right angle of Mercury with Jupiter and Uranus later on 26 May. On 27 May a planetary conjunction Sun-Mercury-Uranus was followed by a critical planetary right angle of Mercury with Venus and Saturn. This critical planetary geometry from 25 to 28 May was followed on 28 May by two lunar conjunctions with Saturn and Jupiter.
