The megathrust earthquake that occurred on 27 January 1700 at the Cascadia subduction zone shows an example of planetary and lunar geometry convergence in two groups, whereby the earthquake followed on the second group. Key geometry is Earth's near alignment between Jupiter and Uranus, resulting in opposing right angle lunar geometry (90° on both sides) in the second group on 26 January. The same geometric setting resulted in semi-right angle geometry (45°-135°) with Jupiter and Uranus in the first group on 22-23 January. Both groups included additional critical lunar geometry due to 45° angular separations with Venus-Neptune and Jupiter-Saturn, and near 90° with Jupiter-Neptune and Uranus-Neptune. In addition, semi-right angle geometry pairs occurred with Venus, Earth and Neptune in the first group, and with Venus, Earth and Uranus in the second group. Convergence of planetary alignments occurred in the first group on 23 January with Mars-Mercury-Neptune and Mercury-Sun-Saturn, followed by Mercury-Sun-Venus in the second group on the 26th.
