Mw 8.8 Off East Coast of Kamchatka

On 29 July 2025 a mega-thrust earthquake occurred off the east coast of Kamchatka at a depth of 20 km. The seismic event occurred at 23:24:51 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 8.8.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is critical lunar geometry on 28-29 July 2025.

In July 2025 Earth moved between Mars on one side and Saturn-Neptune on the other side, causing critical lunar geometry with these planets. This geometry caused a major earthquake in Alaska on 16 July and a major foreshock near Kamchatka on 20 July.

On 25 July lunar semi-right angle geometry occurred with Mars (45°) and with Saturn and Neptune (135°), a day after New Moon and coverging with a Venus:Sun-Mars conjunction. On 28-29 July opposing lunar conjunctions occurred with Mars, Saturn and Neptune, followed by a planetary conjunction Mercury:Venus-Uranus, several hours before the earthquake occurred.
