Mw 6.5 South of Fiji Islands

On 13 April 2025 a strong earthquake occurred at South of Fiji Islands at a depth of 260 km. The seismic event occurred at 20:03:22 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.5.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a near convergence of planetary and lunar geometry from 10 to 12 April 2025.

A planetary conjunction with Mercury, the Sun and Uranus on the 10th converged with multiple lunar conjunctions involving Venus, Saturn and Neptune early on the 11th. A critical planetary conjunction with Venus, Mercury and Neptune occurred early on the 12th, close to Full Moon. A notable temporal cluster of stronger (M ≥ 5.5) earthquakes early on the 13th preceded the strong earthquake South of Fiji Islands.
