Mw 6.9 Reykjanes Ridge

On 3 April 2025 a strong earthquake occurred at Reykjanes Ridge at a depth of 20 km. The seismic event occurred at 14:09:32 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.9.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a lunar conjunction with Jupiter on 2 April 2025.

The near quadruple conjunction with three distinct planetary conjunctions from 27 to 31 March, which resulted in two major earthquakes on the 28th (M 7.7 Myanmar) and on the 30th (M 7.0 Tonga), was followed by lunar conjunctions with Uranus and Jupiter on 1 and 2 April respectively. An obvious temporal cluster followed on the 2nd and 3rd, peaking M 6.9 on the 3rd and 4th.
