Mw 7.3 Vanuatu

On 17 December 2024 a major earthquake occurred at Vanuatu at a depth of 57 km. The seismic event occurred at 01:47:27 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.3.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of planetary conjunctions on 12-13 December 2024.

On 12 Earth was in a conjunction with Venus and Mars. 14 hours later, Venus and Mercury were in a convergence with Neptune. Critical lunar geometry occurred on 12 December when the Moon made opposite right angle geometry with Venus and Mars, and on 15 December when the Moon made semi-right angle geometry again with both planets. A critical lunar conjunction occurred with Jupiter later on the 14th close to Full Moon, about two days before the earthquake.
