Mw 6.5 Queen Charlotte Islands Region

On 15 September 2024 a strong earthquake occurred at Queen Charlotte Islands Region at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 22:22:50 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.5.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of planetary conjunctions from 10 to 12 September 2024.

A near quadruple conjunction occurred from 10 to 12 September involving Venus, the Sun, Mars and Uranus, resulting in three critical planetary conjunctions. Another critical planetary conjunction involving Venus, Mercury and Jupiter also occurred on 12 September. A lunar peak occurred on 14 September due to semi-right angle geometry. Clustering of strong earthquakes (M ≥ 5.5) occurred on 11 and 14-16 September.
