Mw 6.5 Sea of Okhotsk

On 10 August 2024 a strong earthquake occurred at the Sea of Okhotsk at a depth of 409 km. The seismic event occurred at 03:28:33 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.5.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of two planetary conjunctions on 7-8 August 2024.

On 7 August a planetary conjunction occurred with Venus, the Sun and Neptune. It was followed 12 hours later by a second planetary conjunction with Venus, Mercury and Earth. This planetary geometry converged with two lunar conjunctions. The first on 7 August involved Saturn. The second on 8 August involved Neptune. A major earthquake followed on this geometry on 8 August at Kyushu, Japan. A cluster of strong tremors followed on 9-10 August, peaking M 6.5 at the Sea of Okhotsk.
