Mw 7.1 Kyushu, Japan

On 8 August 2024 a major earthquake occurred at Kyushu, Japan at a depth of 20 km. The seismic event occurred at 07:42:55 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.1.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of two planetary conjunctions on 7-8 August 2024.

On 7 August a planetary conjunction occurred with Venus, the Sun and Neptune. It was followed 12 hours later by a second planetary conjunction with Venus, Mercury and Earth. This planetary geometry converged with two lunar conjunctions. The first on 7 August involved Saturn. The second on 8 August involved Neptune, which was when the major earthquake occurred. A clustering of strong tremors followed on 9-10 August.
