Mw 6.7 Mindanao, Philippines

On 17 November 2023 a strong earthquake occurred at Mindanao, Philippines at a depth of 70 km. The seismic event occurred at 08:14:13 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.7.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is critical lunar geometry on 16-17 November 2023.

On 11 November Earth moved between Mars and Uranus, allowing for critical lunar geometry to occur with these outer planets. Opposing lunar right angles with Mars and Uranus occurred on 5-6 November, which resulted in strong to major seismic activity in the Banda Sea. Opposing lunar semi-right angles with the planets occurred close to 17 November.

Three planetary conjunctions occurred with Earth, Mars, Uranus and the Sun on 11, 13 and 18 November respectively. Lunar conjunctions converged on 13 November with New Moon, when Earth moved between the Sun and Uranus.

In total, 6 earthquakes ranging from magnitude 6.7 to 7.1 occurred from 8 to 24 November with the passing of Earth between Mars and Uranus, an average of 2.6 days. Average occurrence of magnitude 6.7 and larger earthquakes from 2020 to 2023 was 12.3 days.
