Mw 6.3 Babuyan Islands Region, Philippines

On 12 September 2023 a strong earthquake occurred in the Babuyan Islands Region, Philippines at a depth of 38 km. The seismic event occurred at 11:03:18 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.3.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of critical planetary geometry on 10-11 September 2023.

On 11 September 2023 a planetary conjunction occurred with the Sun, Mercury and Venus. This conjunction often results in a borderline to low 6 magnitude earthquake. However, this conjunction converged with a grouping of semi-right angles involving Mercury and Venus on 10-11 September. Both Mercury and Venus made 135° angles with Mars and Saturn on 10 September. A day later, a pair of 135° and 45° angles occurred with Venus and Mercury involving Uranus, which also converged with a 45° angle with Mercury, involving the Sun and Uranus. This geometry is depicted on the SSGI graph below by the red and purple dotted lines. Additional strong seismic activity followed on 12-13 September.
