Mw 7.1 Kermadec Islands, New Zealand

On 24 April 2023 a major earthquake occurred at the Kermadec Islands, New Zealand at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 00:41:52 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.1.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of critical planetary geometry on 21-22 April 2023.

On 21 April a right angle occurred with the Sun, involving Venus and Uranus. It was followed several hours later by a right angle with Venus involving Mercury and Jupiter. In the morning of 22 April, a strong earthquake occurred near the time of the Sun-Venus-Mars conjunction. A second major earthquake occurred later on the same day.
