On 4 March 2023 a strong earthquake occurred at the Kermadec Islands, New Zealand at a depth of 150 km. The seismic event occurred at 06:41:16 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.9.
The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of planetary conjunctions around 2 March.
Four planetary conjunctions occurred around 2 March 2023. As a result, major to great seismic activity was anticipated to occur on 3-4 Mars and/or 6-7 Mars at Full Moon. This seismic event was the strongest during the first week of March and also the strongest in four weeks. It was part of a clustering of three strong earthquakes from 1 to 4 March in the magnitude range 6.5-6.9.
