Mw 6.5 Vanuatu

updated 4 March 2023

report

On 2 March 2023 a strong earthquake occurred at Vanuatu at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 18:04:32 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.5.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of two planetary conjunctions on 1-2 March 2023.

A lunar conjunction with Mars on 28 February was followed by two planetary conjunctions on 1-2 March, the first of which also involved Mars. The first week of March 2023 was considered critical due to a convergence of planetary conjunctions around 2 March.
