updated 4 March 2023

report

On 1 March 2023 a strong earthquake occurred at the Bismarck Sea at a depth of 599 km. The seismic event occurred at 05:36:15 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.5.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of a lunar and planetary conjunction with Mars.

A lunar conjunction on 28 February 2023 converged with a planetary conjunction involving Mercury, the Sun and Mars on 1 March. The first week of March 2023 was considered critical due to a convergence of planetary conjunctions, the first of which occurred on 1 March.
