Mw 6.3 Turkey-Syria Border Region

On 20 February 2023 a strong earthquake occurred in the Turkey-Syria Border Region at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 17:04:29 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.3.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is critical planetary geometry on 19-20 February converging with two lunar conjunctions.

Early on 20 February 2023 a lunar conjunction occurred with Saturn. It was followed a few hours later by a lunar conjunction with the Sun (New Moon). In addition, Mercury and Venus formed planetary right angles at the same time. Because of this convergence of critical planetary and lunar geometry, stronger seismic activity was anticipated to occur from 20 to 22 February, potentially peaking around the 22nd.
