On 15 February 2023 a strong earthquake occurred in Masbate Region, Philippines at a depth of 12 km. The seismic event occurred at 18:10:09 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.1.
The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of planetary conjunctions on 14-15 February 2023.
On 14 and 15 February 2023 two planetary conjunctions converged. Because of this convergence strong to major seismic activity was anticipated to occur from 16 to 18 February and peak around 17 February. Only a clustering of earthquakes with magnitude ≥ 5.6 occurred instead near the time of the planetary peaks. Atmospheric fluctuations over the region were recorded on 13 February 2023.
