Mw 6.0 Kepulauan Talaud, Indonesia

On 11 February 2023 a strong earthquake occurred in Kepulauan Talaud, Indonesia at a depth of 54 km. The seismic event occurred at 08:55:08 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.0.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a high lunar peak on 9-10 February 2023.

Late on 9 February a lunar conjunction occurred with Jupiter. As a result, a seismic event of up to about mid 6 magnitude was anticipated. An atmospheric fluctuation on 7 February marked regions over the West Pacific.
