On 14 December 2022 a strong earthquake occurred at the Rat Islands, Aleutian Islands at a depth of 71 km. The seismic event occurred at 18:40:27 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.3.
The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a planetary conjunction with Saturn on 12 December followed by a lunar conjunction also with Saturn on 13 December.
On 12 December the planetary conjunction Sun-Mercury-Saturn occurred, which can be associated with strong to major seismic events, but usually in a convergence with other planetary conjunctions (compare 2016). This time, the planetary conjunction was on its own, followed a day later by a lunar conjunction, also with Saturn.
