Mw 6.8 Southwest of Sumatra, Indonesia
updated 23 November 2022

On 18 November 2022 a strong earthquake occurred southwest of Sumatra, Indonesia at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 13:37:09 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.8.

From 12 to 16 November three planetary conjunctions preceded the strong earthquake. In addition, critical planetary and lunar geometry converged on 15 and 16 November, with the Moon, Mercury and Venus making right and semi-right angles. A lunar conjunction with Saturn occurred early on 16 November.
