Mw 6.6 Western Sichuan, China
updated 30 November 2022

On 5 September 2022 a strong earthquake occurred in Western Sichuan, China at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 04:52:19 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.6.

The main trigger for the strong tremors on 4 and 5 September was the Earth-Mercury-Jupiter conjunction, but the critical geometry on 28-30 August should be considered as well. This strong tremor occurred at the lunar peak on 5 September that reached index 13. Also note the lunar conjunction with Mars on 3 September.
