Mw 6.1 New Britain Region

On 2 September 2022 a strong earthquake occurred in New Britain Region at a depth of 126 km. The seismic event occurred at 22:39:52 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.1.

While critical planetary geometry occurred from 26 to 28 August, Earth was in a close conjunction with Mercury and Jupiter and the conjunction was exact on 3 September. The tremor occurred just after a lunar peak that reached index 14.
