Mw 6.5 South of Kermadec Islands
updated 30 November 2022

On 14 August 2022 a strong earthquake occurred South of Kermadec Islands at a depth of 40 km. The seismic event occurred at 13:44:22 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.5. It was the strongest seismic event in a series of three on 13 and 14 August.

Some critical planetary geometry occurred on 12 August with the Mercury-Sun-Uranus conjunction. The strong tremors on the 14th occurred while Earth was in near conjunction with the Sun and Saturn. Lunar geometry was strong throughout the week peaking index 16 and reached index 20 on the 12th.
