Mw 6.7 Near Coast of Nicaragua
updated 30 November 2022

On 21 April 2022 a strong earthquake occurred near the coast of Nicaragua at a depth of 24 km. The seismic event occurred at 07:42:54 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.7.

The strong earthquake was triggered primarily by the Mercury-Sun-Mars conjunction early on the 20th, followed by a lunar peak later on the day. See the SSGI-graph below. A similar seismic event also occurred after a Mercury-Sun-Mars conjunction on 13 January. However, strong seismic activity is not guaranteed to happen after this particular (or any other critical) conjunction. It also very much depends on the amount of built-up stress and whether or not a particular fault section can be invited to rupture by the incoming EM-waves from specific planetary and/or lunar geometry.
