Mw 6.5 Kermadec Islands Region
updated 30 November 2022

On 29 January 2022 a strong earthquake occurred at Kermadec Islands Region at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 02:46:39 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.5.

Major seismic activity was anticipated as a worst-case-scenario due to a very strong quadruple conjunction (all four conjunctions within one-and-a-half-hour) with Mercury, Venus, the Sun and Saturn. Most critical were considered the days following the conjunction (25-28 January).

In addition, a convergence of critical planetary geometry occurred with Venus on the 27th.
