On 25 January 2022 a strong earthquake occurred in the South Sandwich Islands Region at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 01:24:33 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.0.
Major seismic activity was anticipated as a worst-case-scenario due to a very strong quadruple conjunction (all four conjunctions within one-and-a-half-hour) with Mercury, Venus, the Sun and Saturn. Most critical were considered the days following the conjunction (25-28 January).
