Mw 6.6 Northern Qinghai, China

On 7 January 2022 a strong earthquake occurred in Northern Qinghai, China at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 17:45:31 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.6.

The earthquake occurred after the Moon lined up with Jupiter early on the 6th. In addition, Venus and Mercury were closely aligned with Saturn and the alignment became exact several hours later. Also, Earth was about to line up with Venus and the Sun. Because of the alignments on 8-9 January, an earthquake warning was issued for 10-13 January.
