Mw 7.5 Northern Peru

On 28 November 2021 a major earthquake occurred at Northern Peru at a depth of 110 km. The seismic event occurred at 10:52:13 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.5.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is critical planetary and lunar geometry from 24 to 26 November 2021.

On 24 November a planetary conjunction with Mercury, Venus and Uranus was followed a day later by a lunar conjunction with Saturn. A second planetary conjunction with Venus, the Sun and Mars was followed a day later by a lunar conjunction with Jupiter. Lunar conjunctions with Jupiter and Saturn are among the most critical, especially when preceded by or converging with critical planetary conjunctions, typically involving Mercury and Venus in a relatively short time. Notable planetary right angle geometry involving Mercury and Venus occurred in succession from 26 to 29 November.
