Mw 6.6 Off East Coast of Kamchatka

On 16 March 2021 a strong earthquake occurred off East Coast of Kamchatka at a depth of 20 km. The seismic event occurred at 18:38:23 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.6.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of planetary conjunctions on 14 and 16 March 2021.

On 14 March a planetary conjunction occurred with Earth, Venus and Neptune. It was followed by two planetary conjunctions on 16 March, also involving Venus. The first conjunction occurred at 12:39 UTC with Mars, Venus and Saturn. The second conjunction with the Sun, Venus and Neptune occurred 5 hours later. The convergence of these planetary conjunctions were instrumental in a major earthquake 4 days later.
