Mw 7.5 East of Kuril Islands
updated 26 November 2022

On 25 March 2020 a major earthquake occurred east of the Kuril Islands at a depth of 60 km. The seismic event occurred at 02:49:21 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.5.

The planetary conjunction Earth-Mars-Jupiter on 20 March was preceded by a convergence of critical planetary geometry in a short time on 18 and 19 March, both involving lunar conjunctions with Mars, Jupiter and Saturn as well as planetary and lunar right and semi-right angles, also with Jupiter, and the outer planets Uranus and Neptune. Critical planetary conjunctions of Mercury and Venus occurred on 21 and 26 March with Jupiter and Saturn, while a clustering of four lunar semi-right angles occurred on 22-23 March with the same outer planets Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus, coinciding with a lunar conjunction with Neptune and followed by a New Moon early on 24 March.
