Mw 6.5 Vanuatu
updated 10 May 2022

On 31 July 2019 a strong earthquake occurred at Vanuatu at a depth of 192 km. The seismic event occurred at 15:02:35 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.5.

A convergence of critical planetary geometry on 24-25 July led to a first seismic increase on the 27th when a magnitude 6.3 earthquake occurred near the South coast of Honshu, Japan. Of particular significance was the lunar geometry on 28 and 30 July involving Jupiter and Saturn, after which the strong tremor at Vanuatu occurred. Subsequent lunar geometry on the 31st resulted in strong seismic activity in the following two days near Chile and Sumatra.
