Mw 7.2 Eastern New Guinea Region, P.N.G.
updated 30 May 2022

On 6 May 2019 a major earthquake occurred in Eastern New Guinea Region, P.N.G. at a depth of 141 km. The seismic event occurred at 21:19:36 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.2.

On 30 April 2019 the critical alignment Mercury-Venus-Neptune occurred just after a lunar peak. The next lunar peak that followed on the alignment occurred on 4 May and reached index 16, after which the major earthquake occurred. The alignments involving Mars on 3 and 5 May are not considered critical. It was the third occurrence of an alignment with Mercury, Venus and Neptune in 2019. The fourth occurence on 25 May 2019 was followed by a great earthquake in Peru.
