Mw 6.5 South Sandwich Islands Region
updated 30 May 2022

On 5 April 2019 a strong earthquake occurred at the South Sandwich Islands Region at a depth of 60 km. The seismic event occurred at 16:14:19 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.5.

While low 6 magnitude earthquakes occurred above average, possibly due to the 45° angle between Uranus and Neptune, this stronger earthquake occurred after Earth lined up with Mercury and Neptune on 2 April. The Moon subsequently aligned with Neptune on 3 April, which generated a stronger electromagnetic charge.
