On 1 March 2019 a major earthquake occurred in Southern Peru at a depth of 286 km. The seismic event occurred at 08:50:44 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.0.
In the days leading up to this major earthquake, critcal planetary geometry first occurred on 24 February with a quadruple alignment of Mars, Mercury, the Sun and Jupiter. Lunar geometry had already peaked a day earlier, so a seismic increase could be expected to occur with the next lunar peak. This occurred on 27 February and it was a high peak (index 18), partially due to the Moon's alignment with Jupiter. The Venus-Mercury-Mars alignment a day later may have been a contributor.
