Mw 6.7 Coquimbo, Chile
updated 29 May 2022

On 20 January 2019 a strong earthquake occurred at Coquimbo, Chile at a depth of 55 km. The seismic event occurred at 01:32:51 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.7.

A series of planetary alignments from 13 to 22 January in combination with critical lunar geometry resulted in a clustering of strong earthquakes from 15 to 22 January, peaking magnitude 6.7 on 20 and 22 January. Of significance was the convergence of two alignments involving Venus on 16 January, which was followed by the Moon's alignment with Venus a day later. Also significant was the Moon's alignment with Jupiter and Saturn on 18 and 20 January.
