Mw 6.6 Molucca Sea

On 6 January 2019 a strong earthquake occurred in the Molucca Sea at a depth of 40 km. The seismic event occurred at 17:27:18 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.6.

A clustering of strong earthquakes occurred following the high lunar peak on 3 January, which was partly due to the Moon's alignment with Jupiter.
