On 28 September 2018 a major earthquake occurred at Minahasa, Sulawesi, Indonesia at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 10:02:43 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.5.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a series of planetary conjunctions from 21 to 26 September 2018.

A convergence of critical planetary conjunctions occurred from 21 to 23 September. In particular Mercury-Venus-Neptune and Sun-Venus-Mars generated strong electromagnetic currents, resulting in strong seismic activity that peaked magnitude 6.4 at the Mariana Islands. Major seismic activity was anticipated to occur near the time of Full Moon on 25 September, but it actually occurred two days after Venus reached a conjunction with the Sun and Neptune on 26 September.
