Mw 6.8 Jan Mayen Island Region

On 9 November 2018 a strong earthquake occurred in the Jan Mayen Island Region at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 01:49:39 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.8.

The earthquake occurred following critical lunar geometry (index 14) a day earlier, most notably the Moon's alignment with Jupiter. No critical planetary geometry was involved.
