updated

On 11 July 2017 a strong earthquake occurred at the Auckland Islands, New Zealand at a depth of 15 km. The seismic event occurred at 07:00:07 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.6.

No planetary alignment preceded the earthquake, but it occurred as Jupiter, the Sun and Uranus were lining up while the Moon peaked 12, mainly due to the Full Moon and the Moon's alignment with Mars, which is often a trigger of larger earthquakes.
