On 10 January 2017 a major earthquake occurred at the Celebes Sea at a depth of 630 km. The seismic event occurred at 06:13:47 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.3.
Two planetary alignments involving Mercury converged a day before the earthquake while lunar geometry peaked 13 at the same time. While seismic response often takes 2-3 days, the major earthquake at the Celebes Sea occurred less than 24 hours later and deep inside the asthenosphere.
