Mw 6.8 Banda Sea

On 9 December 2015 a strong earthquake occurred at Banda Sea at a depth of 45 km. The seismic event occurred at 10:21:47 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.8.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of lunar geometry on 6 December 2015.

In early December Earth moved closer between Mars and Uranus, allowing for critical lunar geometry with both planets. Semi-right angle lunar geometry with these planets occurred on 2 December, resulting in a major tremor on the 4th. On 6 December lunar conjunctions with Mars and Uranus converged within 6 hours. Semi-right angle lunar geometry with Saturn and Neptune converged on the same day. A major earthquake (Mw 7.2) occurred on the 7th and two strong earthquakes on the 9th, all within about 2.5 days from the convergence of lunar geometry on the 6th.
