Mw 6.5 Solomon Islands

On 15 August 2015 a strong earthquake occurred at Solomon Islands at a depth of 30 km. The seismic event occurred at 07:47:06 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.5.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is lunar geometry around 14 August 2015.

A convergence of critical planetary geometry occurred around 10 August, followed by semi-right angle lunar geometry with Jupiter and Saturn on the 11th. Temporal clustering of stronger earthquakes occurred from 12 to 15 August, which included three magnitude 6 earthquakes, two of which in the Solomon Islands region. Temporal earthquake clustering extended into the 14th and 15th due to critical lunar conjunctions with Mars, the Sun (New Moon) and Venus. The earthquake occurred shortly before the lunar conjunction with Jupiter was exact.
