Mw 6.5 Barbados Region, Windward Islands

On 16 July 2015 a strong earthquake occurred at Barbados Region, Windward Islands at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 15:16:32 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.5.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is planetary and lunar geometry from 14 to 16 July 2015.

Critical planetary conjunctions occurred on 14 July with Mercury-Sun-Saturn and on 16 July with Earth-Mercury-Mars. Planetary right-angle geometry with Mercury peaked late on 13 July involving the Sun and Jupiter. This geometry with Mercury continued on the 14th involving Jupiter and Saturn. The same geometry with Mercury peaked again on the 15th involving the Sun and Neptune.

Lunar conjunctions on 15-16 July with Mars and the Sun (New Moon) converged with lunar semi-right angle geometry involving Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and Neptune. The New Moon early on the 16th converged with the Earth-Mercury-Mars conjunction.

A second strong earthquake occurred early on 18 July.
