Mw 8.1 Offshore Tarapaca, Chile
updated 23 October 2022

On 1 April 2014 a major earthquake occurred offshore Tarapaca, Chile at a depth of 20 km. The seismic event occurred at 23:46:47 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 8.1. A major aftershock occurred early on 3 April.

Planetary geometry became critical on 27 March when Venus aligned with Mercury and Uranus. A higher lunar peak reaching index 15 occurred on 30 March. In the morning of 1 April Mercury aligned with the Sun and Jupiter while making 90° with Venus twice.
