Mw 7.2 Eastern Turkey
updated 23 October 2022

On 23 October 2011 a major earthquake occurred in Eastern Turkey at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 10:41:23 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.2.

Critical planetary geometry occurred from 16 to 19 October, most notably Earth's alignment with Mercury and Jupiter later on the 17th. A first seismic increase occurred on the 18th. With the next lunar peak on the 21st major seismic activity occurred in the Kermadec Islands region. Within two days of the lunar peak, which was partially due to the Moon's alignment with Mars, the earthquake in Eastern Turkey occurred coinciding with Venus' 90° with Mars and Uranus.
