Mw 6.5 Bali Sea
updated 1 May 2022

On 10 March 2011 a strong earthquake occurred in the Bali Sea at a depth of 533 km. The seismic event occurred at 17:08:38 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.5.

Seismic activity first increased on the 6th after three planetary alignments had occurred starting a day earlier, involving Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn near the time of the grand opposition. The Moon ws involved as well, which caused a high lunar peak (index 18).

Two strong earthquakes occurred in Chile and the South Sandwich Islands, followed by a third at the Solomon Islands on the 7th. On the same day the Venus-Mars-Uranus alignment added greatly to the critical planetary geometry in the previous two days. As a result major seismic activity started on the 9th off the east coast of Honshu, Japan, peaking with a great earthquake on the 11th.
